Are You In Need Of Therapy That Incorporates Spirituality?

Are you experiencing a spiritual longing or feeling out of balance? Have life’s challenges become overwhelming and you are looking for deeper meaning? Would you like to find a fellow traveler who is well-versed in spirituality as well as therapy to walk alongside you on your journey?

Although you are spiritually-minded and open to wisdom beyond the tangible, sometimes it may feel like life is unraveling. Perhaps you are having a hard time accepting the challenges that have shown up for you, whether they’re related to finances, relationships, health, or other issues.

You may find you are faced with painful emotions that you cannot escape and no amount of meditation or spiritual understanding seems to help. When your mind is restless and you don't feel at peace, fear and anxiety may come to the forefront and worsen over time. At those times when it feels like chaos surrounds you, you might be looking for a bigger paradigm to make sense of the world and your place in it.

Perhaps You’re Looking For Something Bigger Than Yourself

As you struggle to find meaning in suffering, your faith may come into play. In your quest to expand your consciousness and understanding of life, you may find answers in religion or, perhaps, be looking for another source of spiritual guidance that is specific to your life situation. Regardless of where you turn for answers, you ultimately want reassurance that any crossroads you face have the potential to offer spiritual metamorphosis.

As a mindful therapist, I want to help you find a sense of meaning and place a spiritual anchor in the ever-changing sea of life. With mindfulness therapy, you can learn how to cultivate a mindscape that is quiet and spacious no matter what life challenges you face.

How Do We Transform Suffering into Spiritual Growth?

We all want happiness and peace. And yet, we often feel stuck in our efforts to grow spiritually, especially in the face of adversity. Although we all experience varying degrees of loss, change, and instability, relatively few of us use life's challenges to become more spiritually conscious, find a bigger view, or derive a sense of meaning from our suffering. As we learn over time, there aren't any quick answers or fixes to our problems. However, when we face our challenges head-on with the help of a seasoned therapist, we have the opportunity to use them to evolve our consciousness.

Our Comfort Culture Promotes Appearance Over Fulfillment

We live in a culture that values comfort, materialism, and a sense of control. We’re encouraged to look for external happiness and avoid examining the deeper meanings of life. While many of us feel social pressure to promote a face to the world that is 'happy', our culture lives with high rates of depression, suicide, and substance abuse. Sadly, our challenges are often thought of as weaknesses rather than opportunities for growth.

It’s a paradox that suffering can be a portal that leads us out of suffering. When things are going well, most of us don’t have a strong motivation to look inward and find a deeper source of happiness. In contrast, when we confront adversity, we are more likely to question ourselves and our lives, creating space for the most important thing: the quest to know and live from our deepest, most essential nature.

The good news is there is a way out of suffering that has everything to do with knowing your own deepest self. With my guidance as a therapist with a spiritual background, mindfulness therapy can help you discover the answers you seek.

Mindfulness Therapy Offers You Holistic Spiritual Counseling

The integration of psychology and spirituality has interested me since I became a therapist. Throughout my years in practice, I’ve found that when clients process trauma, they search for meaning as to what has led them to this moment. As such, family upbringing, religious background, and spiritual beliefs often come into clearer focus. From my perspective as a spiritual seeker and psychotherapist, it feels beneficial to fuse the two disciplines to explore deeper self-awareness.

Mindfulness therapy offers you the opportunity to both heal and grow spiritually. By supporting an embodied spirituality with practical wisdom, you will be allowed to observe and question your thoughts, your view of yourself, and the world. I will encourage you to listen to the wisdom of your own heart while you fully inhabit your body. Value will be placed on slowing down, being present for yourself, and making space for deeper wisdom to emerge.

What To Expect In Sessions

We will identify areas where you feel stuck or have difficulty accepting yourself or others. Together we will create inner spaciousness where there is room to discover new aspects of yourself. By exploring the thoughts, feelings, somatic sensations, and behaviors that accompany areas of challenge, we will discover the underlying root causes and the direction of growth needed. A significant component of spiritual growth is gathering the strength to question your life and to connect with your deepest identity. In the process, you can exercise self-compassion and learn to meet challenges with equanimity and agency. As you heal relationships and events of the past, you can move toward forgiveness for yourself and others.

The Modalities I Use

I draw from my time in India, where I lived and studied under the guidance of an Eastern meditation master for nine years.  And, having studied with western spiritual teachers including Eckhart Tolle and Byron Katie, I draw from their wisdom in my work as a therapist. But perhaps my best teachers have been periods of my own dark night of the soul where my suffering has propelled me to more earnestly seek deeper meaning and ultimately draw from a deeper source of happiness and truth within.

Through mindfulness therapy, you will take away a deeper capacity to listen to your innate wisdom, live in the moment, question your thoughts, and develop a kinder, more compassionate relationship with yourself. As you learn how to access an internal source of peace and happiness, you will find you can be relaxed about what previously was bothersome. What’s more, your capacity for kindness, tolerance, and empathy will blossom.

But You May Wonder Whether Mindfulness Therapy Is Right For You…

What if I don’t have time to dedicate to finding my spiritual direction?

Our own longing compels us to make space for our deepest nature to unfold. Spiritual growth can't be measured in conventional ways. The results of your efforts may only be known in retrospect. Nurturing your inner source of love and truth can have enormous ripples in the fabric of your life.  By learning to observe your thoughts and access your own deepest wisdom, you can make incremental changes that will eventually transform your life in significant ways.

I don’t see the value a therapist will add to my spiritual journey.

As a therapist who is deeply invested in my own spirituality, I believe that spiritual growth blooms with a fellow seeker’s guidance. We are social creatures who are not meant to go it alone. Having a companion on your spiritual journey can be a valuable part of the process. I will be there to carry your burdens with you, hold space for you, and celebrate your breakthroughs.

Spiritual growth seems so elusive and hard to pin down.

While we have momentary glimmers of peace, openness, and connection to our deepest nature, it can feel so fleeting. However, any effort you focus on your spiritual journey is never wasted. Having a companion along the way can exponentially increase your ability to stay on course and track your personal growth. Although spiritual awakening sometimes feels like a steep mountain to climb, every step matters and is worth taking. The quest for spiritual direction and understanding who you are is truly the most important thing you can endeavor to do.
